The exteriors of our homes and businesses can be expensive to fix. But when you’re aware of what could compromise the integrity of your concrete walkway/driveway, you can be proactive and prevent these problems, instead of constantly repairing the damage. Here are 3 things to be on the lookout for that could compromise the integrity of your paved surfaces.

Spilled oil
Oil spills may seem like an appearance issue only, but if you do not clean up leaked oil immediately, your driveway suffers. Oil can, over time, weaken and eventually break down asphalt paved surfaces.
Dirt
Walkways and driveways have a tendency to collect dirt, especially if there are already grooves there for aesthetic purposes (e.g. cobblestone walkways). When dirt isn’t removed on a regular basis, it can cause serious problems to your paved surfaces. Things like unwanted weeds can take root in the dirt, leading to cracking.
Lichen and moss
Similar to weeds, lichen and moss also like to take root and grow in the cracks and crevices of your paved driveway and walkway. Lichen and moss can both cause deterioration, and moss can cause your asphalt surfaces to become slippery, making them an unnecessary safety hazard.
