Many folks tend to forget about the importance their home’s gutters and sometimes neglect maintaining them. Some experts even refer to your gutters as the unsung hero of your home. Unfortunately, if you neglect to maintain your gutters, this can cause numerous problems for your home.
Your gutters are extremely important because they divert rainwater away from your house. Guttering also prevents a whole host of problems, such as mold, mildew, and damage to the foundations, landscaping and paint. Homes that do not have rain gutters at all run the risk of incurring catastrophic damage which could include compromise to the house’s structural integrity due to water damage. In addition, a house without gutters has no protection for the roof.
Gutters need to be regularly maintained to ensure that they work effectively. On a routine basis, they should be checked for rust, gaps or holes, and cleaned out. It is also a good idea to make sure that they have not pulled away from your home and are correctly pitched towards the downspouts. It is normally a good decision to clean out your gutters at least twice a year.
Regular cleaning should not be underestimated as this can prevent pulling or sagging. If you notice that your gutters are not working properly, this could be due to the clogging of debris, such as grit and leaves.
